Linda Hoover is a working artist living in Houstonia, MO just 10 miles north of Sedalia. She retired from teaching art in her local school – Pettis Cty. RV, 3 years ago and has been delighted with the extra time to make art and enjoy her grandchildren, the most recent of whom just arrived on May 12!!

Linda's mother was an artist who made beautiful watercolors and encouraged her to develop her own interest in art. She was always considered the class artist in elementary school, but didn’t do much with her art until she had several children and wanted to have a business she could do from home. SO, at that point, she opened a sign painting business which was a good income for her for about 10 years until her last child started kindergarten. That year Linda returned to college herself, got a degree in Art Education from UCM, started teaching art and continued with that for 17 years during which time she got her master’s degree from MU in education with an emphasis in art.

This year she’s serving as president of SVAA, enjoying immensely the opportunities that have opened up for her in her art career, and feeling very grateful to God for those blessings and all the other blessings in her life.

This is all recent work from this last year. Eternity, Tree City USA, Jesus and the Little Children are murals, and the cottonwood tree is on a door in my own dining room.
Eternity was done for the Shepherd’s Place in downtown Sedalia and Jesus is life-sized.
Tree City USA was commissioned by the Tree Board for their Arbor Day celebration and each panel is 3’ x 6’.
Jesus and the Little Children is being unveiled tomorrow at our church – Liberty Life Center and includes the youngest members of families in our church as well as several adults for the models. It’s on a stretched canvas, 4’ x 5’. I like this idea of using real people to illustrate biblical passages because I think it can help us understand that these things happened to real people like you and me.
Cowboy’s Nap, and The Good Life – showing the view from the 3rd story of the Sedalia courthouse are paintings. Cowboy’s Nap is an acrylic and The Good Life is a watercolor.
